Mac icon Liza the Lizard

Home About

On Sat 21 Feb 2026 a juvenile Australian Water Dragon showed up at our door.

A small, gangly lizard with a very long tail sits on the bottom frame of a sliding door.

We were heading out on a trip that weekend, but when we got back we were pleased to see that the lizard was still around. It had taken to spending each night clinging to one of the stems of our elephant ear pot plant.

Each time we would leave the house we'd check for the lizard. Or peer out the kitchen window during the day to see if it was there. After a couple of days we named her Liza (inspired in part by a show we were watching where the main character was named Liza). We don't know for sure that she is a she, but that's what we're going with.

During the day Liza likes to sit atop one of the wheels of our wheelie bins (yes that's really what we call them in Australia).

I'm not sure how long she will live with us, but while it lasts it's fun to have a pet lizard named Liza.
